Maria's book hits number one spot.

Northampton motorcycle racer Maria Costello is celebrating after her autobiography claimed a second best-seller position on the giant Amazon website.

The former Guinness World Record holder saw her highly-acclaimed book hit the No.1 spot in the competitive Motor Sports category on the website last Friday.

Maria Costello: Queen of Bikers outsold books about some of the biggest names in motorsport, including Jenson Button, James Hunt and Richard Hammond, to land top place in the category.

Her autobiography is a honest account of her life as a female competing in the fiercely competitive world of motorcycle racing, and has been a big hit in Amazon's Kindle store.

Last autumn, the book achieved 'best-seller' status when it reached No.1 in a special interest section, No.2 in women's autobiographies and No.5 in overall sports biographies, where it sat alongside books by the likes of top football managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp, and boxing legend Mike Tyson.

Costello, who has high hopes for the new racing season after her tremendous performances last year, said: "I'm overwhelmed by the support my book has received, and cannot thank enough all those people who have bought it.

"The reviews have been amazing, and I feel thrilled and honoured to have got my second No.1 spot."

The book, co-written with former Northampton Chronicle & Echo sports editor Steve Pitts, has sold out in hardback, and the co-authors are in discussion with several publishers about bringing out an updated paperback version later this year.

Costello added: "Because the hardback was selling well, we decided to try out Kindle, and it has been a great success. But so much has happened to me in the past couple of years, I think it would be nice to get it out in paperback as well."

The Kindle version of the book is available at www.amazon.co.uk. It costs £4.11 to download.
