Manx Classic Weekend Trial 4 and 5 September 2010

30th August 2010
The Manx Classic Weekend Trial will take place next Saturday and Sunday 4 and 5 September 2010.

The event caters for a total of 200 riders, on 160 Pre-65 bikes and 40 Twinshocks and has been described by riders and spectators alike as the best trial of its type in Europe. Competitors this year will travel from as far away as USA, South Africa, Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, Belgium and Guernsey.

The route takes in some of the most spectacular scenery the island has to offer. With approximately 30 miles each day the Southern route on Saturday goes close to the magnificent coastal scenery at Cronk ny Arrey Laa, whilst the Northern route on Sunday explores the famous mountain region at Snaefell. Most of the sections are spectator-friendly with many groups easily accessible. Those easiest to get to are identified in the event programme.

The event is now in its 14th year and some competitors have ridden in every event. Regulars include former TT winner, Mick Grant, speedway star, Eric Boocock, Manx Grand Prix winner Buddy Yeardsley and three times Classic Trial winner John Maxfield. We are also hoping to welcome Steve Plater for the first time this year provided he is fit.

The classic bikes are an enthusiast’s dream with BSAs, Ariels, Triumphs, Greeves, James, Panthers, AJS and Matchless making an appearance. Many of them have been totally restored to their former glory and in many cases are more competitive now than they were in their heyday.

The Premier sections are for those riders who like a challenge and the Clubman sections for those who just want an enjoyable weekend's sport. This year the Saturday route will start at St Johns car park close to Tynwald Hill, where the first competitor will leave at 08.30.

Sunday sees the start transferred to the famous TT Grandstand on Glencrutchery Road as riders set off down Pit Lane on the northern route at 08.00.

The first riders to finish on Sunday are expected at the Douglas Rugby Club from approx 15.00 where welcome refreshments can be obtained.

Any event such as this cannot go ahead without the help of marshals and observers. If you can help, please contact the Chief Marshal, Juan Readshaw on mob: 07624 264264 or e-mail ManxTrials@iom.com
